Spraying changes the formula
A sprayable sunscreen must be thin enough to atomise but still leave an even film. Thin products run off skin, and a spray does not tell the user how much is enough. SPF values are tested at a set amount per square centimetre, so real-life protection from a spray is usually lower than the label unless the user applies generously.
Do not breathe it in
Sprays can be inhaled. Labels should say not to spray on the face directly, to spray on hands first for the face and to avoid use in closed spaces. These warnings matter more for children, so ask about kids’ sunscreen as a separate project.
SPF still needs a test report
SPF and PA claims need test reports on the final formula, in the final pack. A spray version of a tested lotion is a new formula for testing purposes.
