What the numbers mean
SPF measures protection from UVB, which causes sunburn. PA measures protection from UVA, which drives ageing and tanning: PA+ is some protection and PA++++ is extremely high. A good sunscreen needs both, plus broad-spectrum labelling.
Chemical or mineral filters?
Filters must come from the list permitted in Indian standards and used within limits. We design the formula around those rules and confirm the current requirements with you.
Sunscreen is hard to keep stable
Avobenzone breaks down in light unless stabilised, and filters can separate in heat. We test emulsion stability across temperature cycles and check the formula in the final pack. Sunscreens are used outdoors, so transport heat and high summer temperatures matter.
How a sunscreen is developed
We choose the filters for the protection you need, the feel you want and the skin tones you serve. A tinted mineral sunscreen is a different project from a clear chemical gel, and both are different from a water-resistant body lotion.
We build the emulsion so it holds the filters evenly. Poor distribution means lower SPF in some parts of the bottle. Then we make a sample for SPF and PA testing; the formula must stay frozen during testing, so changes after this point mean testing again.
Once the result is in, we finalise the pack, the label and the claim wording with you.
Selling sunscreen in India
Indian customers want protection without white cast, stickiness or breakouts. They also want to see the SPF and PA on the front. Make those the first things a buyer reads.
Use education. A short card on how much to apply and when to reapply improves results and your reviews. Sunscreen is a habit product, so retention is strong once a customer trusts it.
