How a night cream is developed
We decide the richness first. A night cream for dry skin is thick and occlusive, while one for oily skin is a light gel-cream. Both can carry the same actives.
Then we choose the night-time active: retinol, peptides, ceramides or hydrating agents. Retinol creams need an opaque pack and antioxidant protection. Peptide creams need a pH where the peptide is stable.
The last test is a night’s use: how the cream feels after eight hours, whether it stains pillows and whether skin feels comfortable on waking.
